Valves for Innovative Refrigerants

CO2 and chemical refrigerants with GWP <150 (global warming potential, greenhouse potential)

Cooling without releasing harmful greenhouse gases is essential for environmental protection.
In vehicle air conditioning systems, Tetrafluoroethane (R134a) with a GWP of 1,430 was mainly used as the refrigerant. The EU Directive 2006/40/EC on emissions from air conditioning systems in motor vehicles has been prohibiting the use of refrigerants with a global warming potential of over 150 in new passenger and light commercial vehicles since January 1, 2017.

EGELHOF has been developing expansion valves for automotive A/C systems with refrigerants and GWP less than 150 since the late 1990s.

This affects both the development with the most environmentally friendly refrigerant R744 (CO2), GWP = 1, as well as the current conversion of automotive air conditioning systems to refrigerant R1234yf with a GWP = 4, for example.
